Funke Akindele raises the bar once again with A TRIBE CALLED JUDAH

One of my standout performances in this production was Uzor Arukwe's portrayal of Chairman. His interpretation of a wealthy, malevolent character evoked a deep sense of empathy towards Emeka's struggles. He flawlessly depicted the complex nature of someone who possesses both hypocritical and sadistic tendencies, skillfully blending humor and terror. You know that wicked stingy boss who will never reward your efforts and still somehow make you feel they are doing so much for you ? He nailed it.

I just watched this movie and must admit that Funke Akindele truly lives up to her reputation. I sincerely commend her for once again gracefully raising the bar with her exceptional storytelling, performances, and remarkable picture quality. A Tribe Called Judah has definitely earned all the accolades it has received. The suspense, unexpected twists, and relatable characters had me completely captivated.

PLOT

The plot of A Tribe Called Judah revolves around Jedidah, enacted by Funke Akindele, who has five sons from five different men. Her past is plagued with traumatic relationships with different men and ultimately being disowned by her father. Against all odds, she struggles to keep her faith alive and ensure her children emerge successful. However, the weight of motherhood and the struggle to survive takes a toll on her health, which plunges her sons into a unique kind of responsibility, as they must do whatever it takes to keep her alive.

HIGH SIDES

One aspect that stood out to me is the superbly executed suspense as a tribe called Judah effectively breaks  away from the typical family dramas found in Nollywood. Then combined with an ingenious portrayal of the concept of a Nigerian heist which relates with our experiences left me stunned . If you’ve ever wondered what a Nigerian heist would look like , then this movie did just that. The outcome left me thoroughly impressed considering the fact that heist movies are not popular within Nollywood. Yet, this movie in the most relatable manner, puts a remarkable  effort to give a thrilling adventure of what a Nigerian heist would look like.

PERFORMANCE

The casting for this film is also impeccably done, with each actor perfectly suited for their respective roles. One of my standout performances in this production will be Uzor Arukwe's portrayal of Chairman. Each actor delivered an exceptional performance, with a special mention to the sons of Judah who accurately embodied their distinctive character traits revealing the typical average Nigerian family chaos.

A Tribe Called Judah truly grips the audience emotionally, giving both humor and tragedy in highlighting the lengths people will go to in the name of family.

SUMMARY
Another part of the movie that caught my attention is the cinematography and the fight scene which was impressive. The actions were properly choreographed , followed by the gun handling and shots fired. Everything came out intense, putting me at the edge of my seat and can not believed I prayed for a positive outcome for the Judah brothers. This is an absolute 10 over 10 for me because as far as I am concerned Funke Akindele raised the bar with a unique storytelling and unexpected twist.
